I have always loved crafts! I have pretty much done them all!
In 2018 I went from a house full of people that needed to be cared for, to having free time on my hands and needed to fill it with a new hobby. I was done with the scrapbooking thing and had enough needlepoint and cross stitch pictures, given to me by my mom, to fill a museum.
Luckily, a dear friend introduced me to quilting and there has been no turning back!
I started by making rag quilts for everyone in the family and then moved on to piecing and quilting larger quilts on my mother’s hand me down Bernina 801 Sport (think 1970's)
I quickly found that an upgrade was needed, so a longarm was purchased! My longarm came with rulers but there were things about the rulers I was not happy with. I am fortunate to have a machinist for a husband and he quickly designed and made me new ones that served my purpose a little better.
I loved what he made, and I showed them to guild mates, and then at a local quilt show and quickly found that others loved them as well! I figured, if my small group of contacts liked them, perhaps more people would enjoy them and so I started Silly Moon Quilting Co. and now design and make rulers as well as teach others that ruler quilting is not scary!"
My Workshop
You CAN quilt your quilts with amazing designs on your domestic machine or longarm. Let’s step out of straight-line quilting and add some dimension and texture to your quilts!
In this fun filled lecture style class, you will learn that all you need to ruler quilt is a few tools and the willingness to learn. Whether you want to create quick edge-to-edge designs on your quilt or intricate detailed designs, I will show you how to do both at home, on either your longarm or domestic machine.
You will be taught all the ruler quilting basics including how to set up your workspace, set up your machine and what rulers are the best to get started with. We will also cover what factors to consider when choosing between a block specific quilting design or an edge-to-edge design, how to combine ruler work and free motion quilting, as well as what role different threads can play and so much more.
At the end of this lecture, you will look at your quilt tops in a different way and realize that YOU can quilt your own quilts and have them look like they were professionally quilted.
