My Workshop

Many makers are concerned about the health of our planet and although it may seem overwhelming, there are small steps we can take as individuals to change our attitudes, one stitch at a time. The need for sustainable sewing practices like thrifting, up-cycling and mending are ways in which we can make a difference to counteract a "throwaway society" and global waste. As an added bonus, through hand stitching we create mental health breathing spaces for ourselves through the stillness of slowing down. 

In this short workshop you will learn about the ancient Japanese art of Boro stitching and see how easy it is to add beauty and creativity to clothing you have wanted to throw out. Besides patching, you will also learn about making a simple bag from scraps of fabric. You do not have to be an expert to learn these skills.
